Canetti confirms Lopez interest

Houston Dynamo's club president Chris Canetti has confirmed the club are interested in signing Olimpa midfielder Alex Lopez.

The Honduran playmaker impressed during Los Catrachos' run to the semi-finals in the 2013 Gold Cup and has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, being heavily linked with a move to the MLS.

And Dynamo now look favourites to land the 21-year-old after Canetti confirmed the clubs were in talks over a possible deal for the youngster.

"I can confirm that we are engaged in serious conversations with Olimpia and Alex López on a transfer to Houston," Canetti told Major League Soccer's official website.

"A deal is not final, but, we are hoping that the current process will result in one before the deadline. My sense is that this is headed in the right direction."

Lopez' international team-mate and Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia added he believes the youngster will bring a composure to midfield and has tipped him to succeed in the American top-flight,

"Out of everyone, I think he's the one that's done the best job (for Honduras at the Gold Cup)," the 28-year old said.

"He knows how to manage the flow of the game. I think he's a very dynamic player and would enjoy and do well playing in MLS."
