Mamabolo relieved by outcome

Comrades Marathon champion Ludwick Mamabolo is glad the ordeal which threatened to ruin his running career if finally over.

Mamabolo, who tested positive for a banned stimulant after winning gold at the 2012 Comrades Marathon, was cleared of any wrongdoing earlier this week.

"I am delighted that I now have my good name and livelihood back," said a relieved Mamabolo on Wednesday.

As is the case with many athletes in South Africa, Mamabolo made tremendous sacrifices to pursue a running career. It is well documented that he even took unpaid leave to prepare for last year's marathon.

"I rely on running to support my family," said Mamabolo.

Mamabolo was found not guilty after it was established that there were many irregularities in the testing process at the Comrades Marathon.

"We are certain this is the right result for him and for sport," said Werksmans Attorneys director David Hertz.
